FINMA publishes warning on suspected illegal activities in financial markets in January 2025

The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) is an independent regulator of the financial markets. FINMA supervises banks, insurance companies, exchanges, securities dealers, collective investment schemes, and their asset managers and fund managers, as well as distributors and insurance intermediaries.

It is an unfortunate fact that there are companies and individuals in the marketplace providing financial services without the requisite license. Many are not legitimate businesses, and it is quite common for them to entice investors into handing over capital, particularly through making deposits, with the promise of attractive returns. Many of their victims lose much or even all of their investments. Generally, such providers lack the know-how, organization, and infrastructure required by law. They often turn out to be pyramid (Ponzi) schemes or fronts for criminal activity.

The warning list includes companies and individuals suspected of conducting unauthorized activities in the financial market. Inclusion in the list does not necessarily mean, however, that the company is conducting illegal activities.

In addition, the list is not updated daily and the possibility cannot be excluded that companies are carrying out activities requiring authorization without the requisite authorization and are not (yet) included in the FINMA warning list.
