Union Budget 2025 Allocates ₹1,900 Crore for Cybersecurity

The Union Budget for 2025-2026 has been presented in India, with the government allocating ₹1,900 crore for cybersecurity. Recently, data shared by Maharashtra's State Home Department revealed that 219,047 cases of financial fraud were reported last year, involving a total of ₹38,872.14 crore. Mumbai recorded the highest number of such incidents.

Digital fraud is on the rise in India. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu are urging citizens to stay vigilant and protect themselves from financial scams.

In 2024, cybersecurity capital projects received ₹759 crore, and in 2025, this allocation increased to ₹782 crore. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) was allocated ₹255 crore.

The National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems received a significant increase in funding, rising to ₹900 crore, up from ₹564.46 crore in 2024.

The Indian government has launched the National Cyber Reporting Portal, providing victims with a simple platform to register and track their complaints. In addition, the portal raises awareness by offering safety tips and publishing a daily cyber digest that highlights the latest frauds, keeping users informed and protected.
